The explosive growth of user generated content (UGC)  shared on social media was bound to attract the big boys. The potential to e-commerce and specifically gifting of personalized products is just beginning to emerge.  While Facebook might have taken a time-out on social media gifting, this week, Apple showed its hand with a patent application that was published detailing digital gifting with personalized music, voice and video messaging capabilities and social media integration.

According to  patentlyapple.com the Apple application anticipates a gift giver listening to a song on iTunes where:

the audio playback application selects a segment of the song surrounding the event mark as the portion of the song that the listener is interested in. This segment can be incorporated into the creation of a personal message for the recipient.

Now, if only we could bridge the divide between the digital to the physical and incorporate some of this great content into physical gifts… that would be something!
