Build-A-Bear offers Build-A-Sound online

Build-A-Bear Workshop is offering its online customers the option to further personalize their bears with a recorded voice message placed inside the toy.

The Build-A-Sound option allows website customers to record a personalized voice message over a phone line and store it in a miniature recorder, which is then placed inside the stuffed animal. The feature has been available in its stores for nearly two years. The cost for the voice message is $8 both in the store and online.

“We are excited to launch this just before Valentine’s Day when so many people want to share a special message of love through a stuffed animal,” said Maxine Clark, Chief Executive, in a statement.

St. Louis-based Build-A-Bear Workshop is an interactive toy store. The privately held company currently has 72 stores in 30 states with plans to expand to 100 stores by the end of this year. The company was ranked as the second-fastest growing private company on the Business Journal’s May 2001 list, with 1,609-percent growth in revenue from 1998 to 2000.
