BUILD-A-BEAR’S UNIVERSAL SOUND

We worked with Build-A-Bear Workshop to develop the universal sound chip for a new self-service point of sale kiosk located near the entrance of their retail storefronts. Our objective was to increase the attachment rate of sounds to stuffed animals. Using the kiosk, guests are able to scan the unique barcode attached to their furry friend and get sound recommendations, including the ability to record their own sounds. Say it with Sound® and our Digital Hear Me® Station are tradenames of Build-A-Bear and bear testement to how sounds are a signature offer with double-digit take rates.

QR CODES AND SMS MESSAGING

With the emergence of safe shopping initiatives, touch-less interactions with products and displays have taken on new relevance. A QR code printed on a product or on a shelf-talker moves the interaction to a shopper’s smart phone. Similarly a SMS short-code printed on an end-cap bridges the physical-digital divide and lets the shopper explore product features and even interact with a bot or live agent, all from the comfort and safety of their phone. What QR Codes and SMS short-codes lack, is that they are not engaging nor can they begin the path to purchase. A Connect® interactive display can begin a voice conversation and engage the shopper so that when it suggests the shopper scan a QR code or send a relevant prompt to an SMS short code, the shopper is likely to act.

SELF-PLAYING MEDIA DRIVES TRAFFIC TO RETAILERS

As more and more products are media-enabled via user generated content, there will be a growing desire on the part of consumers to use smart phone apps to pick up their user generated media enhanced products at retail locations; Buy Online Pick Up In Store (BOPIS). Imagine creating a unique play list, audio message or original music on a popular app such Spotify, TikTok or Smule and then using a QR code on your smartphone to create a unique musical gift a kiosk in store or at an airport. The desire to consume customized and user designed media products will certainly be a powerful tool to drive traffic and increase sales.

AUDIO SAMPLING FOR MOOD ENTERTAINMENT

We were approached by Mood Entertainment (formerly Somerset Entertainment), the largest provider of specialty music sold through nontraditional retailers. They wanted to provide a low-cost, self-liquidating audio display solution to create end-caps for big box retailers. These electronic displays could be replaced rather than serviced by store reps. We worked closely with them through a number of challenges to develop a highly successful self-playing media unit to ship with their point of sale display cases.

We were approached by Mood Entertainment (formerly Somerset Entertainment), the largest provider of specialty music sold through nontraditional retailers, to provide a low-cost solution to replace their proprietary interactive point of sale displays that the company was currently using in retail environments. We worked closely with them through a number of challenges to develop a highly successful self-playing media unit to ship with their point of sale display cases.

Self-Playing Media Saves space

The ultimate metrics of retail is sales/square foot, so shelf and floor space are understandably precious. An interactive display that provides answers to frequently asked questions at the sound of a voice provides a high-touch experience without touching a button or a screen. Similarly a sampling point-of-sale display which responds to a wake-word and provides a message before dispensing with a sample, takes minimal shelf space and provides the same basic function as a hired sales hand with a table full of samples.

MEDIA CAN BE SELF-SERVICED​

One of the attractions of retail is the potential for service. One of it’s shortcomins is when service is lacking or lines are long. The addition of self-playing media at strategic loctions at retail empowers the consumer to learn about the product on a self-serve basis. Products such as those found in the photo and gift departments can be personalized and embellished by the purchaser with a custom voice or video message using a self-playing media powered point of sale kiosk. This can save the gift-giver and memory-maker precious time and anxiety in creating a personal gift or memento while enhancing the final offer and delighting both giver and the reciever.
